International bidders welcome! Pioneer aviation, Italy!
    For auction:
From Henry Woodhouse Archive, rare 1912 letter from the
    Gyro Motor Company
, Washington, DC mentioning sending photos of
    aviator Paul Peck
    in his gyromotored
    Columbia monoplane
The address of the Gyro Motor Co. was 774 Girard St. Washington, DC. You can see photos of the factory (now condos) on Zillow. One of the photos on Zillow shows a plaque for the factory.
Paul Peck was killed in a plane crash in September 1912. He was from West Virginia and had achieved a level of fame. He used to fly at the College Park Airport (one of the oldest continuously operating airports in the US). Pictures and photos of him are rare.
See the early birds of aviation website on Paul Peck: https://www.earlyaviators.com/epeck.htm
Columbia monoplane - from thefirstairraces.net:  "Washington Aeroplane Co. "Columbia" monoplane (USA, 1912)
The Columbia monoplane was entered for the 1912 Gordon Bennett aviation race held in Chicago, to be piloted by Paul Peck, known as "The Birdman of West Virginia". Powered by a Gyro rotary rated at 50 hp it would surely have been no match for the far superior Deperdussin monocoque monoplanes. In 1912 Peck was killed while flying the Columbian at a Chicago exhibition. Peck started a steep spiral, ignoring a sudden storm, the engine came loose, cut through the pilot's seat with its whirling propeller, and the airplane disintegrated in the air."
Unfortunately, I have not yet found the Paul Peck photos mentioned. If I do find them, I will certainly contact the purchaser of this letter to let them know. Thanks!
    Letter measures approx.:
    8 x 5.5
Please study the scans and photos.
