    Description

Sir Charles Edward Kingsford Smith [1897 1935] was a Australian aviator who earned global fame in 1928, when he made the first trans-Pacific flight from the United States to Australia. He continued his record setting flying with record flights of a non-stop crossing of the Australian mainland, the first flights between Australia and New Zealand, and the first eastward Pacific crossing from Australia to the United States and Australia to London. In 1932, he was knighted and appointed honorary Air Commodore of the Royal Australian Air Force. On November 8, 1935, Sir Charles Kingsford and his co-pilot John Thompson Pethybridge were flying the Lady Southern Cross from Allahabad, India to Singapore as part of their attempt to break the England-Australia speed record when they disappeared over the Andaman Sea. Despite an extensive search they were never found. Listed for auction is the autograph of Sir Charles Edward Kingsford Smith signed on a presentation album page. The page is affixed with a commemorative Australian postage stamp which commemorates his historic World Flight and the autograph is signed ''C. Kingsford Smith'' and he added ''Southern Cross'' in black fountain pen. The page measures 6.00 x 9.50 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, very rare to obtain and will be a desirable addition to any aviation collection. We have listed the autographs of aviators and early explorers, along with a nice collection of military, astronaut and political autographs.
